SOCIALIZATION OF WASTE & TRASH HANDLING TECHNIQUES CONTAINING B3 WASTE

The emergence of several emergency incidents in several laboratories at Diponegoro University due to the accumulation of waste and hazardous and toxic waste (B3) left over from laboratory experiments has increased the urgency of conducting outreach on proper management in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The UPT K3L, in collaboration with the UPT Laboratorium Terpadu (Integrated Laboratory), led by Ir. Agus Hadiyarto, M.T., a resource person with expertise in waste and environmental management, held a socialization event on B3 Waste and Waste Containing B3 Waste Handling Techniques.

This activity was conducted online via Zoom meeting and attended by all laboratory staff at Diponegoro University. The hope is that this outreach will educate laboratory staff on how to identify, store, code, and securely package specimens before they are distributed to third parties for further management.

And for the long-term hope, after all existing B3 waste that has expired, used B3 packaging waste has been destroyed. The next step can be to carry out a projection of the data collection of B3 material needs periodically from each laboratory in each unit at Diponegoro University, to limit the occurrence of excessive B3 waste and help reduce the budget for further management which must be carried out in collaboration with third parties, because as an educational institution, Diponegoro University only has a permit for storage only.
